Station 223/227
Kettle Run Station
The facility you see today opened in December 1998 after the Fire District funded construction of a new station. Station 225/228, known as the Kettle Run Station, is situated at 498 Hopewell Road, serving the southern region of Evesham Township.
Equipped to meet a variety of emergency situations, the Kettle Run Station features a Pierce Arrow XT Engine (2251) for fire suppression efforts and a Ford Brush Truck (2257), as well as a mix of support vehicles for fire prevention operations. The specialized apparatus at this station ensures that the team is ready to provide rapid and efficient response to incidents across the township.
The Kettle Run Fire Company was formed on June 5, 1957 by a group of community members. Charter Member William Long donated the land where the current station on Hopewell Road stands today, and Charter Members Ed Snyder, Alphons Campbell (Past Chief), Warren Fauser and Milton Harvey secured second mortgages on their homes, securing funds to build the station and purchase equipment. Interesting enough, there were two airports in Evesham Township protected by the fire companies of Evesham Township. One was the Marlton-Medford Airfield, which was located on farm land in the area of Carlton Avenue and Evesboro-Medford Road. The other airport was the Aero-Haven Airport located along Kettle Run Road in Evesham Township (and most often mistaken for being located in Berlin, NJ Camden County). This airport was in the Kettle Run Fire Company response area. The Kettle Run Fire Company maintained an engine that had foam capabilities, equipped for handling aircraft emergencies and aviation fuel spills.
In 1968, the Evesham Township Fire District No.1 was created. In 1972, Township Ordinance recognized that the Evesham Township Fire District No.1 was Evesham Fire Department, with two fire stations serving Evesham Township: Marlton Fire Company No.1 and Kettle Run Fire Company, and Marlton First Aid Squad serving the emergency medical needs of the Township, and members of the fire stations operating as one under the Fire District.
In 1990, the Fire District absorbed the Marlton First Aid Squad, which integrated emergency medical services into operations. The old Marlton First Aid Squad building remains on Main Street today and is occupied by the Evesham Township School District’s facilities and Maintenance divisions. For the Fire District, 1992 began years of needed construction to accommodate the increasing size of the District membership and its fire and EMS call volume. Thus, the Main Street station was constructed and opened in 1998, the Kings Grant station was constructed and opened in 1992, and the new Kettle Run station was constructed and opened in 1998.
