Station 221/229 – Main Street Station & Historic Fire House

Station 221/229

Main Street Station & Historic Fire House

Welcome to Station 221/229. The station was constructed August 1998. Situated at 26 East Main Street, this station is at the heart of the Marlton section of Evesham Township.

Station 221/229 is not just a response hub, but also houses a large meeting room for our fire and EMS training needs, as well as the Board of Fire Commissioners Meetings. It houses an impressive fleet, including two Pierce Arrow XT Engines (2211 and 2212), a Pierce Velocity Heavy Rescue (2218), a Freightliner medium-duty technical rescue support vehicle (USAR 22), and three Ford/Horton Basic Life Support Ambulances (2291, 2292, 2293), as well as command and support vehicles.

The original Marlton Fire Company building sits in the rear of the property at Station 221 and houses the District’s 1927 Hale pumper. This station and antique piece represents the rich history of volunteer fire service in the District, which was provided by the men and women of the Marlton Fire Company No. 1 prior to the formation of the Fire District. This station historically served the Marlton section of Evesham Township, with the volunteer Kettle Run fire station serving the Marlton Lakes section of the community.

In 1968, the Evesham Township Fire District No.1 was created.  In 1972, Township Ordinance recognized that the Evesham Township Fire District No.1 was Evesham Fire Department, with two fire stations serving Evesham Township: Marlton Fire Company No.1 and Kettle Run Fire Company, and Marlton First Aid Squad serving the emergency medical needs of the Township, and members of the fire stations operating as one under the Fire District.

In 1990, the Fire District absorbed the Marlton First Aid Squad, which integrated emergency medical services into operations. The old Marlton First Aid Squad building remains on Main Street today and is occupied by the Evesham Township School District’s facilities and Maintenance divisions.  For the Fire District, 1992 began years of needed construction to accommodate the increasing size of the District membership and its fire and EMS call volume.  Thus, the Main Street station was constructed and opened in 1998, the Kings Grant station was constructed and opened in 1992, and the Kettle Run station was constructed and opened in 1998.
